Jack Turner and Adam Grossman from jackadam have come up with an interesting idea: to create a smart phone app that can accurately predict the likelihood of rain within the next 30 minutes, in combination with a beautifully animated map of storm activity.

Based on the map data gathered by 140 doppler radar stations throughout the United States, a smooth animation will be created that does not resemble the clunky, jerky and hard-to-follow succession of static radar images that we know today. In addition, this map will be overlayed with an interactive timeline that plots the historical and anticipated intensity of storm and precipitation around one’s geographical location. As a result, one can explore many hours of smoothly animated storm maps, and should be able to predict the actual situation in a more intuitive way.

The only problem? They still need about $10,000 within the next 14 days to make it really happen.
